老鹰合唱团具美国音乐承先启后的地位，其优美的和声上承Everly Brothers（艾佛利兄弟二重唱）、Beach Boys（海滩少年合唱团）、C.S.N.Y.以来的优良传统；流畅的旋律与演奏为民谣＼乡村摇滚The Byrds（伯兹）、Buffalo Springfield（水牛春田）、The Flying Burrito Brothers等合唱团的延续，这些音乐特色影响了日后乡村音乐的发展，九○年代之后像Garth Brooks、Tim McGraw、Restless Heart…等巨星或团体无不受老鹰合唱团的启发。
首张同名专辑「Eagles」发行于1972年，共收录10首歌，无懈可击的和声在此张专辑便充分展现。本作中共推出三首单曲，分别是由Glenn Frey与有「加州桂冠诗人」之称的作曲家兼歌手杰克森‧布朗（Jackson Browne）合写的"Take It Easy"还有Bernie Leadon与Don Henley写的单曲"Witchy Woman"及洛杉矶作曲家Jack Tempchin谱曲之"Peaceful Easy Feeling"。「Eagles」专辑虽然团员间合作的歌曲不多（只有"Witchy Woman"、Leadon与Meisner合作的"Early Bird"两首）不过团员间取得了很好的平衡：各司其职，四人的和谐的演唱造就了首张专辑有著白金唱片的销量，值得注意的是日后团中创作大将Don Henley在第一张专辑只有入选一首歌，选曲上还是以Glenn Frey为主。『Eagles』发行后老鹰合唱团就此开始展翅高飞。
Eagles is the debut studio album by the rock band the Eagles. The album was recorded at London's Olympic Studios with producer Glyn Johns and released in 1972.
The album was an immediate success for the young band, reaching No. 22 on the charts and going platinum. Three singles were released from the album, each reaching the Top 40: "Take It Easy" (number 12), "Witchy Woman" (number 9), and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" (number 22). The band, starting with this album, played a major role in popularizing the country rock sound.
The album was ranked number 368 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time published in 2012.The single "Take It Easy" is part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll".
